Russian 3D Scanner (R3DS) has released an updated to Wrap 3, its interesting standalone tool for transferring topology from an existing model to a 3D scan, helping retopologise scan data more quickly.
Wrap was made to literally revolutionize how you process or retopologize 3D Scanned data. The application will basically fit an existing base mesh to a scan. Wrap 3 adds a new and faster wrapping algorithm that is also much more robust. The system can now handle a variety of, what might be deemed as problematic scanned data, such as partial 3D scans, full body scans, and Kinect scans.
The system can even handle things that you would instantly think were impossible, like a hand with closed fingers, or hiding a ball. Wrap 3 can still wrap the base mesh to the scan even though it might be partially occluded.
Wrap 3 also provides tools for working with scanned data, such as decimation tools, mesh filtering tools, texture projection tools and more. Wrap also gives a node-based workspace. Once you processed a scan, you can easily repeat that process to other scans quickly.
What’s New in Wrap 3.2.0:
- Replace Node
Takes two models in the same topology and seamlessly replaces a part of one model with a part of the other.
- Subset Node
Detaches a selected part of a model to a separate geometry (a subset). The subset can further be modified, saved, loaded, wrapped or transformed. Any changes in vertex positions of the detached geometry can be later brought back to the original model using ApplySubset node.
- ApplySubset Node
Works in pair with a Subset node. Copies vertex positions of the subset back to original mesh. The topology and the vertex order of the subset geometry should not be modified.
- Command Line Interface
Wrap can be run through a command line interface.
- Fullbody Basemesh
The basemesh was designed specifically for wrapping purposes by Alexey Bogatyrev. It can be used for commercial purposes.
- MTL Reference Preservation
Wrap preserves reference to *.mtl file when loading and saving model to OBJ-file.
- Auto-compute is off by Default
Auto-compute option of Wrapping node is off by default.
BUG #19: Wrap freezes if the basemesh contains isolated vertices.
BUG #22: Parameters of some node reset to default after removing them and undoing remove operation.
BUG #24: RepairGeom node does not remove isolated vertices if the input geometry is manifold and does not contain invalid polygons.
