Bentley Systems Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure, has released RAM Concept CONNECT Edition Update 3, is an analysis and design program that uses the finite element method for elevated concrete floor systems, or mat foundations. The floors or mats can be post-tensioned concrete (PT), reinforced concrete (RC), or hybrid (a mixture of PT and RC). RAM Concept is extremely powerful and allows you to design an entire floor in one model, or design individual strips or beams.
In this context, the term "design" means that:
- The user defines the following: structural geometry, loads, load combinations, and post-tensioning layout (if applicable).
- RAM Concept calculates (for any number of load combinations): the required amount of reinforcement for flexure and one-way shear according to relevant code requirements; the stud shear reinforcement (SSR) for punching shear, stresses for flexure, and deflections.
A model consists of anything from a single simply supported beam or slab to an entire floor. All models are three-dimensional (even those developed with Strip Wizard).
RAM Concept does not generally use strip methods other than to replicate the intent of concrete code rules, and with the Strip Wizard interface.
RAM Concept CONNECT Edition V6 Update 3 has the new features discussed below:
CONNECT Advisor – A New Tool for Locating Technical Resources
This release of RAM Concept includes the new CONNECT Advisor. CONNECT Advisor is a desktop application for interacting with different types of technical content on Bentley software, thereby eliminating the need to search various sources individually. Users can search for articles, whitepapers, videos, Bentley Learn courses, release notes and more, all in one location.
- Notifications of New Releases
Notifications will now be delivered when a new version of RAM Concept is available for download. These notifications are delivered through CONNECTION Client. This component must be running to receive these notifications. For more information on CONNECTION Client, refer to Chapter 17 of the RAM Concept technical manual.
- Export of Reinforcing to Revit Structure
Reinforcing designed in RAM Concept can now be exported to Revit Structure for BIM and drawing production. This requires Bentley’s Structural Synchronizer and the ISM Revit Plugin.
- Reinforcing Exported to ISM Now Tagged as Top/Bottom and Lat/Long
Reinforcing written to an ISM file from RAM Concept is now assigned two custom properties: Rebar Slab Face (top or bottom) and Rebar Span Direction (Latitude or Longitude). This allows the bars to be separated more easily when interoperating.
- Warning Delivered if Vertical Gap Exists between Slab Elements
When modeling two different slab polygons that share an edge, but are separated vertically by a gap, the slabs are linked together and act as a continuous slab. However, the user may intend for the two slabs to act independently of one another, which would require a separation in plan between the two edges. A warning is now delivered during analysis that alerts the user to such conditions.
- Order of Window Display when using Cascade and Tile Commands
The Cascade and Tile window operations now respect the Plan window stacking order. The Tile operation places the top Plan window in the top-left corner of the workspace, and the bottom Plan window in the bottom-right corner of the workspace
